Hi Reader,

Happy Friday!

It's been a while - I hope this note finds you well :)

I want to give you two quick updates:

  1. I'm writing a book!
  2. This newsletter is moving to substack

📘 The book

I started writing a book last month! The working title is "A small book to help you make a BIG climate impact".

It will be a climate journey and action guide for people who are nervous, scared, sad, overwhelmed, or pissed off about the planetary emergency and want to do what they can to help solve it.

It’s for people who want to increase or maximize their positive impact and learn what actions sustainability experts have identified as the most effective when it comes to accelerating the implementation of climate solutions.

Whether you’re new to climate action and figuring out where to plug in, a seasoned veteran who’s always looking for ways to level up your impact, or somewhere in between, this book will help you take the next steps on your climate journey.

I'm hoping to keep it short and sweet - in the 100 to 150-page range. But we'll see. Turns out writing a short book on such a massive topic is hard - who woulda thought?!

If you like the sound of this - if you want to support the book and help bring it to life, stay tuned! I'm thinking of creating a Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund the project. And also forming a book launch team to help get this inspiring and empowering climate action guide into the hands of as many people as possible!

I'm self-publishing it so there's a lot of work to do and new things to learn. I'll keep you posted as I figure out the details :)

🦋 This newsletter is moving to substack

As you know, the nonprofit Crowdsourcing Sustainability closed its doors last September.

But I'm still on the same mission of working to reverse global heating as quickly and equitably as possible.

I still believe in the importance of educating, inspiring, and empowering people around the world to make the places we live and work climate-positive.

And I still love learning, writing, and doing what I can to help people like you on your climate journeys.

So if you want to keep this good thing going in some way, shape, or form, I'm up for trying out a new chapter of this newsletter if you are!

If you signed up for this newsletter back in 2018 or 2019, you'll know it was originally called "What on EARTH?!" and had been running for two years before Crowdsourcing Sustainability became a nonprofit.

Now we're on to a new chapter and possibly a new name.

To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what this new chapter will look like. Writing and getting the book out into the world is my priority at the moment. And I haven't decided what name to go with yet for the newsletter.

But we'll figure it out as we go. Happy to hear your ideas and feedback as always so if you've got name ideas please send 'em my way!

Moving the newsletter to substack

This is more of a logistics fyi - you don't really have to do anything.

But keep your eyes open for an email I'll send you in May. It will be from "Ryan Hagen". Once you find that email, do what you need to do to make sure the newsletter goes to the folder you want it to in the future so you always see it!

(switching to substack because it's free and gives us more community interaction.)

Anyway, happy to be back and talk to you soon :)

Much love,

Ryan

Hi Reader,One of the most effective yet overlooked levers that each of us can pull to accelerate climate solutions is being active citizens at the local level. This is where your vote and advocacy have the most weight. It’s the level of government where things can be done the quickest. Local policy and investment decisions have the potential to reduce a significant amount of emissions (e.g. roughly 35% of emissions in California). And perhaps most importantly, it’s where the majority of your...
